"In the meantime, James is off for the next 4 weeks working on a film. When he finishes he will be getting back to the recording studio so that he can finish up his solo album. Фаны послали менеджеру ДМ, Стиву Химберу, запрос насчет фильма - уж не "Венецианская жара" ли это? Вот его ответ: "NO we have no association with the producers of "Venetian Heat" - they have yet to prove that they are legitimate producers who can make that film. This is another film and because of contractual issues I cannot release alot about it. I can tell you that James stars in it and plays a loveable, loser, wannabe bankrobber."
Суперзасекреченный фильм фильм про грабителя-неудачника? Такой засекреченный, что играющий в нем актер не имеет права разглашаь его название? Хоть убейте меня - не могу представить себе, что это может значить.

Robert Comfort and his partner, Sammy "The Arab" Nalo, loved high-profile capers. They had already robbed Sophia Loren's apartment while the terrified actress looked on. Now they were after something bigger. In the early morning hours of January 2, 1972, their gang of five men, wearing masks and tuxedos, entered the lobby of Manhattan's lavish Pierre Hotel, hand?cuffed nineteen guests and employees, and in less than two-and-a-half hours emptied its safe deposit boxes. Their estimated haul: $10 million in precious gems and cash. Though Comfort was caught a few days later, only $750,000 of the loot was ever recovered. www.thelaborers.net The first of the murders charged in the indictment was that of Sorecho "Sammy the Arab" Nalo. Describing the events leading to Nalo's murder, Chiodo testified that Amuso assigned him to supervise the illegal gambling operation of Spyredon "Spiros" Velentzas. The true story of Bobby Comfort, a con man who is soon lured into a hotel by Sammy Nalo, a flamboyant thief with questionable mob connections. With a third man, Doc Dipaolo, they succeed in robbing a NY hotel but almost kill each other in the process. They have very different philosophies and the harmless, debonair Bobby refuses to ever work again with the violent, two-bit thug Sammy.
When Sammy shows up with their take on the hotel job, Bobby and Doc are lured by the potential windfall to re-team for another heist. From now on they're doing it Bobby's way; no violence, no costumes, all very polite. In fact, when these three guys show up as late arrivals in tuxedoes - and then proceed to hold up the jewellry vault - all the victims can remember is how polite and suave they are. The next one goes off so well, they begin a spree of NYC hotel robberies.
The Big One is the Pierre Hotel, which boasts the most wealthy and renowned guests coming for a New Years Eve bash. Bobby knows the cops are onto them, but that just adds to the challenge. Together, with Doc and Sammy, and two other recruits, they manage to pull off the biggest hotel heist in American history.

А насчет 22 лет, думаю, Геро, ты права. 22 года были упомянуты лишь как возраст, с которого Bobby Comfort обзавелся семье и попытался начать законопослушную жизнь. Да и когда это в фильмах придерживались таких "мелочей" как возраст героя

At any rate, it really doesn't sound like these guys were all that smart. They were caught trying to sell some of the jewels in NY, less than a week after the robbery. Also, they used 14 pairs of handcuffs on the hotel employees & guests, & were found with - you guessed it - 14 pairs of handcuffs! I'm sure that puts most of you CDSers in a happy place but I can't believe they took the time to uncuff those people before they left!
Also, Bobby wasn't caught in the first raid, during the sale. He was found at another nearby hotel, the same day.

just saw the episode of Masterminds that was about the Pierre Hotel Heist and really hope they use some of the things they mentioned. They had a recreation of the heist and Bobby Comfort does have style. Not only were they all dressed in tuxes, but they even bought a limo to take them to the hotel. And for disguises they used beards and wigs. Bobby wore big fake eyebrows.
The tuxes they used in the recreation were the basic dark blue or black ones. Wasn't sure which. Not flashy though. But they did appear to have some ruffles on the shirts. They showed actual photos of Bobby and Sammy and as to hair styles, Bobby had straight dark hair combed back and sideburns. It was kind of cut midlength. Not short but not long. Sammy, his partner, had a shaved head.
Several things that Bobby reportedly did I hope they include in the movie are:
Leaping over the hotel front desk when they first arrived to stop the night clerk from pressing the alarm.
Dressing up as the clerk and manning the desk.
Pulling a gun on a elderly man who comes into the hotel in the middle of the heist. On seeing how upset the man was Bobby put the gun away and got him a glass of water. He told him everything was going to be ok, but they were going to have to handcuff him.
Right before leaving the hotel he thanked the hostages for cooperating and put a twenty dollar bill in each of their pockets for their effort. Except for the security guards. Bobby didn't like cops.
It was an interesting documentary that could have easily been longer. They briefly touched on his early life and talked about the aftermath of the Heist. They showed a few color pics of Comfort, one with his wife and daughters as well as the photos from around the time of the Heist. What became of Comfort and Sammy was also mentioned.
After watching this I can see why JM took the role. There's lots of good material and Bobby is an interesting person. I'm looking forward to the movie even more.
In the police photo he looking in his mid-thirties. Sammy looked about the same.
They were caught four days after the Heist when Bobby was trying to fence some gems to help Sammy out of a jam with the Mob. Unfortunately for the cops, the disguises worked wonderfully and none of the witnesses agreed on the descriptions of the robbeers. Also, the FBI refused to help. They didn't want to expose their undercover operatives and informants.
In the end, they could only charge them with Possesion of Stolen Goods with a maximum of four years in prison. They never found most of the money.
