Subject: SPIKEFEED SPOILERS: Smile Time
Only the one Spike scene.
Nina leaves, and Puppet!Angel climbs out from under the desk where he
was hiding from her. At that moment, Spike comes into the office,
already talking.
"Hey, Big Guy," he says, striding into the room as though it's his
office and not Angel's. "Afraid I'm gonna need another car. The
last one ended up in the drink." And then he sees Angel.
"Spike..." Angel says. In that "I'm soooo screwed" tone of voice.
"Look at you," Spike drawls. The funny is fast overtaking the
surprise, and the corners of his mouth are starting to twitch upward.
"SPIKE..." This time it's a definite warning, which of course Spike ignores.
"You're a bloody puppet!" he says, and grins one grin which goes
around his face two times.
Next thing we see is Spike, bursting through the office doors into
the lobby, propelled by Puppet!Angel. He lands hard on the floor,
and there's a moment of wrestling for position. Spike is laughing,
full out. Angel finally pins him, one hand around Spike's throat.
Spike, still laughing, holds Angel off with a forearm to the throat.
"You're a wee little puppet man!" he says, and Angel punches him.
Spike just laughs, and Angel punches him again, harder. "Ow!" Angel
has split Spike's lip. "That's enough," Spike says, still finding
the whole thing a big hoot, and flings Angel over his head. Angel
lands on his feet.
"Angel," Spike says, getting to his feet. By now there's a crowd of
W&H employees gathered around them, staring, mouths gaping. "What
the hell happened to you? You look ridiculous!"
At her desk, Harmony is staring, too. "You're a..."
"SHUT UP!" Angel gives her a killing look, and coming from a muppet,
it's pretty scary. Harmony shuts up.
Angel turns, sees all the people looking at him in mingled horror and
amusement. "What are you looking at?" he snaps, but no one answers.
"Well???"
Spike can't resist that one. "They're looking at the wee little
puppet man," he says, nonchalantly, and dabs at the blood at the
corner of his mouth.
Puppet!Angel snarls and springs at Spike, catching Spike's arm
between his jaws. Spike tries to get him off, but Angel isn't
letting go. Spike smashes Angel into the wall, hard, but Angel hangs
on, and throws Spike into an open elevator. As Spike and Angel go
bashing around the car, the doors close. We can hear them whaling on
each other.
"Stupid...Limey...Piece of crap!" Angel says, and there's the sound
of punches between the words. The elevator bell dings, the doors
open, and there's Spike, slumped in the corner of the car.
Puppet!Angel walks out of the elevator, straightening his coat. He
sees all eyes on him, and glares at the gathered crowd. "Yes," he
says, "I'm a puppet. But that doesn't mean you don't have work to
do." He glares at them from under his very heavy eyebrows, and they
all turn away and scurry to their duties. Spike gets to his feet.
It's not as easy as it ought to be.
Angel stalks back to his office. "Harmony," he says as he passes her
desk, "Get me my call list." Harmony, still having trouble
processing all this, stares.
"Ummmmm..." she says, clearly not sure what to do. Spike walks to
her desk, leans on it for a moment. "You heard the puppet," he says,
and he is a very chastened vampire who isn't laughing any more.
And in other news:
Angel is just so cute when he's talking to Wes about Nina ("GET OVER
IT!" he says. And, "Amen!" said I. <G>
We get to see Puppet!Angel vamp out! Very cool!
The end with Nina, when Angel offers to take her to breakfast, is
cute. But he's still a puppet; he won't be back to normal for a
couple of days.
Another cute bit is when Angel is talking to Nina on her second day
in the cage. He's come to show her why he was hiding under the desk,
and he's telling her that he's going to be paying more attention now
to what's going on around him, he's going to make an effort to keep
up, blah, blah, blah, when a big hairy paw snatches him back against
the bars. "Nina! No! Bad Nina!" he says.
I really thought Puppet!Angel worked beautifully. Loved the power
shot we saw in the promo, with Wes, Gunn and Fred walking in slomo
behind Puppet!Angel carrying the sword slung across his shoulders.
