Спойлеры и рассуждения

Mountain Dew?

16 - W&D by Steve DeKnight
17 - W by Liz Craft and Sarah Fain
18 - W by Drew Goddard
19 - W by Ben Edlund (he was writing and unable

to attend the W&H reveu due to writing duties)
20 - W by Steve DeKnight, possibly with Drew

Goddard (who SDK is trying to convince, but

Drew is apparently worn out), possibly directed by

David Greenwalt
21 - W by David Fury, as with all unwritten Fury

episodes there is a strong possibility of another

writer co-writing the episode, though i'm not sure

who would be able to.
22 - W&D by Jeff Bell

Интервью Фьюри

Спасибо ДебореММ за расшифровку!

Interview with David Fury by TaraDiLullo, from Dreamwatch no 115.

Firstly, I had to make a couple of comments, but I’ve left them right to the end, so as not to be confusing.

‘David Fury really got to sink his teeth into Angel’s tale of the century. “It was a very tricky story to break,” says Fury, who wrote and also directed AtS’s 100th episode, You’re Welcome. “We knew what questions to ask in the episode and we knew what the 100th had to say about where we were and where we are now. The 100th episode was always supposed to include SMG and when she balked, it became evident the next best, and maybe even the better person, would be Cordelia. She was with the show from the beginning and the heart of the show. Once Charisma agreed to return, it then became about where Cordelia was going to be. Joss was heavily involved in the breaking of the story and I was trying to write the script before we really knew what the story was because time was running out,” he continues. “We knew that Cordelia was going to wake up in the teaser but then we had to decide where we wanted to go with it. It really helped when we decided Lindsay would be one of the major Big Bads of the season, since he was also from the pilot episode. From there, it all fell into place and, in fact, we even do a homage to Doyle, which is very moving.”
While You’re Welcome delves into the rich mythos of the series, it also concludes Cordelia’s storyline on the show. In a coma and unseen since the end of season 4, Cordelia finally returns to help Angel regain his champion’s path following his dubious decision to run W&H. The characters also resolve some romantic loose ends left lingering, even though Fury was never a supporter of the Angel/Cordelia romance prior to the episode’s production.
“I think a lot of the reason they were first put together was because we couldn’t find someone else Angel could be together with,” he explains. “We have tried many times to give Angel a love interest and we have failed miserably for many reasons. Either we don’t feel like the dynamic is there or the pain Joss so enjoys can’t be gotten through some of the characters. That has been the biggest bane for a show creator who thrives on relationships for his characters – how can we not give our titular star a love interest? I totally understand why we went to the Cordelia place and I think that whatever else I thought about the relationship before I got to work with the two of them, I was moved,” he admits. “We all were. There were tears on set and I suddenly went, ‘Oh my God, I’m an Angel/Cordelia ‘shipper!’”
You’re Welcome is the first AtS episode to be directed by Fury, who previously helmed the BtVS episode LMPTM. “It was a wonderful experience on many levels, but it was also very difficult in that it was a new show for me. It was a new crew and a new arena but that said, I’m really proud of the episode and the people involved. In particular, Charisma was amazing and having her back reminded myself and others just how important she was to the show. She was phenomenal and everybody recognised it.”
As to the question of whether Carpenter will ever appear on AtS again after You’re Welcome, Fury is reluctant to give a definitive answer. “Anybody who knows BtVS and AtS knows that there is always the possibility of someone coming back regardless of how they left,” he notes. “Nothing is final, but this works very nicely as closure.”
With two thirds of AtS’s fifth season now in the can, Fury reveals that this year has been particularly tough for the creative team to chart. Not only have the writers been asked by the WB network to focus on self-contained storylines that are accessible to newcomers as well as long-time viewers, but they’ve also had to make the characters’ move to W&H work in the show’s favour.
“It’s very hard to do heavily personal stories about our characters in a workplace environment,” explains Fury. “The Hyperion hotel was a workplace environment but it was also their home, and we felt it always played as the allegory of family. You can’t play family allegories in a corporate office. It becomes co-workers, and that’s a harder thing to get personal about without contriving romantic relationships that we’ve let lapse or are trying to create. The second part of the challenge is trying to explain the big giant grey area of the show now. These are good guys but they are flawed good guys working in a very evil environment and they are fighting great evils with their evil resources. It becomes very baffling, whereas it was always very clear when it was a few people working the seamy demon underbelly of LA. Trying to help the helpless was very clear-cut. It’s a more complex show now, but thankfully, a lot of people really love it. We weren’t sure how people would react quite honestly, “he admits. “The fact we’ve been able to work characters like Spike and Harmony into the mix just makes for more interesting stories. We’ve been able to do some interesting things regarding the past especially with Angel and Spike. I think the thing I am most proud of is playing out that dynamic. That has been the most important relationship of the season.”
Speaking of the ever-battling vampires, Fury reports that he had a wonderful time exploring Angel and Spike’s history in the episodes Just Rewards and Destiny. “I think the love story this season is between Angel and Spike – and when I say a love story, I mean a brotherly love story,” he states. “I would love to see Angel and Spike become a team. I don’t think it would change them at all but it would add an interesting dynamic. One of things I was desperate to do in the 100th was for Spike and Angel to suddenly say we have a common enemy and whatever else is going on between us, let’s forget it and you and me take this on,” says Fury. “I wanted a power shot of Spike and Angel walking into battle together. I would love to have seen that, but it didn’t happen. Joss couldn’t find a place to earn it and he didn’t want to go there this soon. I think we’ll get to that point.”
As for the rest of the show’s characters, their increased corruption due to working at W&H is an arc that will also step up in coming episodes. “There are very interesting changes afoot as their involvement with W&H will cost them dearly. Gunn has definitely been the most interesting in terms of the corruption angle. Lorne, despite being the voice of reason on the show, is in many ways one of the most corrupted. But Fred will fall victim as well, in a very specific way that I can’t elaborate, but it will be interesting and there will be more for Wesley too. I think in many ways, ironically, Angel is now the voice of reason. They are all far more seduced than Angel is and I think Angel will end up being the one most grounded and pulling everyone out of the fire. And all of these events will play into one big arc.”
While AtS’s fifth season has won record ratings in the US, David Fury says that the show’s makers aren’t talking much about a sixth season just yet. Instead, they’re focusing on completing the show’s current season and are enjoying the achievement of producing AtS’s 100th episode.
“Celebrating our 100th is a big deal, “he declares. “Talking about next year seems so far away right now. But I think there could be a sixth season. We all love working here and the only reason we would have any hesitation is if it’s not right for the show. We’ll have to see where we think we can bring the characters next and which characters will live and die and what new characters we should see.”

All I can say is that I am absolutely astonished that anyone could think that having Charisma back for the 100th episode could be ‘second best’ behind SMG, but I kind of forgive him for his belated conversion to C/A ‘shipper. Don’t know why people couldn’t see it before. It’s plain enough to me. Also, love what he says about Spike/Angel and wonder if that hand-holding scene was the power-shot he wanted, or if we’ll get more. Also, that last sentence has me very worried. Please, everyone, continue to send the postcards begging them not to kill Spike again! Once was enough.

I know that Bookie and Gray Sunrise did a set visit and posted about it here. Sharvie and I had the great fortune of getting to visit the set today and we had such a fabulous time!

Below is the report that I posted at my livejournal regarding the experience. I just copied and pasted because it's been a long day and that report took me hours to write. Just ask Sharvie! She was sitting right next to me!

Mods, if this doesn't belong here, please feel free to move it!

Anyway, here it is, and it's really, really long. I apologize for that.

We weren't supposed to be there until noon and despite waking up late, we made it by 12:30pm. Luckily, we had no trouble finding the studio either. I've passed by where Paramount Studios is located several times, but I never figured that that was the exact location where Angel was filmed. Go fig.

After going through security, we used our little map to guide us to sound stages 5, 6, 7, and 17. We wandered around outside for a little bit asking where we could find Dan until someone told us to follow him and in we went to sound stage 5. From the very beginning everything seemed surreal, but it was even more unbelievable when we finally walked in to the stage. The first part we walked through was one of the hallways of Wolfram and Hart (Sharvie says it was possibly the one where Spike bit Cordelia in "You're Welcome" and there were several lawyer-type people lounging about.

When we got to the lighting room, we were greeted by Tom, the electrician we met at the party and told us how nice James is. He and Sharvie quickly jump into talk about lighting stuff that I didn't understand until Dan comes in and scoops us out for a really quick tour of the sound stage. We met Sparky, the prop master and saw the canvas (technical term: translight) that is suppose to be the cityscape outside of Angel's office window. Going back the other way, we ended up at the snack cart that faced towards Wes' office, and guess who was there filming? Alexis Denisof himself, of course. And it just so happened that today was his birthday, so they had a cake for him (of which I have a picture). We stayed there just watching the action going on. We weren't that close and we were watching through a window with blinds, so it wasn't easy to see, but it was still fun!

Afterwards we met Jerry, the best boy, who took us around the rest of the place. Being a huge lighting geek, the first thing we went to see were the dimmers. Don't know what that is, but they were big and outside the sound stages in their own little sheds. Then we went into stage 6, where a few moments before an international press junket had been held and most of the cast members had attended. Jerry told us that James had just been there, but then hopped on a cart and was taken to his trailer. We were given a call sheet by Dan, but James wasn't listed for any of today's shootings. He had only been there for the press junket. Though it would have been nice to see him, I think Sharvie and I would have completely lost our minds; as it was we were hanging by a thread trying to keep mellow.

Back to stage 6, the first set we saw was a dungeon that had been used for the previous episode they had filmed. It was also the same place where the junket had been held which was why there were several nicely set up tables and people from the catering service where picking everything up. It was still really cool to see how absolutely detailed the whole place was. The stone walls looked so real, but upon touching them, they were foam-like. Several torture-device props were set up throughout the dungeon giving it an even more real appearance. From the dungeon we were directed to Fred's bedroom. All the furniture was covered up, but we got a good idea as to what it looked like. Apparently it might still be used in a future episode which was why it was still up.

After checking out Fred's bedroom, Jerry took us to stage 7 where the first thing we saw was Fred's lab. The lab itself looked pretty spic'n'span, again, extremely detailed with all kinds of testing tubes and jars placed all over. There were a couple of construction guys in the lab who were really nice and took a picture of Sharvie and me. Fred's office was nearly completely destroyed. The glass from the windows was all over the carpet and her desk had been pushed to the side. Things like the Dixie Chicks poster were still up, but the office did look somewhat empty.

Going out through the back entrance to Fred's office, we ended up in what used to be Spike's apartment. It looked nothing like the apartment since it was stripped bare. For that matter, it looked more like an alleyway, but apparently that was the same place where Spike's apartment had been set up. Then came Angel's penthouse-- another elaborately decorated set. And the bed is super soft and comfy too! The place was dimly lit, but with flash I managed to take some good pictures of the place. Compared to the rest of the sets I had seen up to that point, I think Angel's penthouse was the biggest. It looked just as roomy as it does on TV.

After seeing everything that stage 7 had to offer, we made our way to stage 17 which will be used in a future episode. Today they were constructing the actual set. Once construction is over, the lighting crew will come in and do their thing. On that same stage we saw this giant green/black looking thing that will be used in an upcoming episode as well as the egg that came out in "Smile Time."

After stage 17, we were dropped off with Dan again (it was lunch time) and he took us to see the rest of stage 5. On our way in, Alexis and Drew Goddard were just walking out, and to our surprise, Drew recognized Sharvie from Saturday's party! We spoke to him for a little bit and then asked for a picture. He was extremely nice and totally agreed. Dan suggested we take it in front of the Wolfram & Hart sign behind Harmony's desk, which we did. The pic looks awesome, too! Upon Sharvie's suggestion, Drew sat on Harm's chair and we stood on either side of him. Knowing it was his lunch time, we didn't want to bug him more, so off he went while we lurked about the lobby of W&H. We went into all the offices and took pictures of pretty much everything. Dan told us (at the party, actually) that stage 5 is the same one that was used for the Brady Bunch, and that the staircase in the lobby is the same one that was used for that show.

I loved Angel's office! It's probably just as big has his penthouse. There was this thing against the wall in the conference room that is absolutely stunning. It reminded me of all the Indian art I saw at the British Museum.

Gunn's office was set up as a place where the actors could lounge about while waiting for their turn to rehearse or film. Each chair in the office had a name attached to it, for example there was one for Mercedes McNab, Drew Goddard, and there we saw the name of one actor in particular (not JM) which I won't name here in case there's a spoiler-free reader, but feel free to ask me later if you are curious.

Wes' office was messy. There was some stuff from the filming but otherwise it was just as Wes' office is on TV. I have pictures of all of this which I'll share with everyone.

Since it was still lunch time, Dan took us to the craft services truck where we were free to order anything we wanted, no cost. Sharvie was so stunned with everything that had happened so far that she couldn't think straight enough to order, so she ended up ordering white rice with sun-dried tomato alfredo sauce. She doesn't even like sun-dried tomatoes OR alfredo sauce! I ordered a baked potato and rigatoni with marinara sauce... not something I would combine normally, but I really didn't know what else to order. Other choices they had available were beef au jus (sp?), grilled salmon, grilled chicken, salads, fruit salads, and I don't know how many other things. While Sharvie and I were getting our utensils I spotted Alexis at the benches with the other crew workers. As we were leaving that area to go eat in Dan's truck (huge thing with lots of lighting stuff in it), we passed by Mercedes who was ordering her meal. She seemed so adorable!

During lunch we met several other members of the crew, including Dan's girlfriend, Heidi, who is a stand-in for Fred and Spike. Actually, she attended the party this past weekend, but I couldn't really remember her. They both told us that last year's party was better in terms of how many cast members showed up. Then again, last year it was a Buffy and Angel posting board party, so that made a difference I suppose. Heidi also mentioned that Amy Acker had strep throat, AD was in London (for Alyson's play), JM was with his son, and I don't remember what she said about DB.

All the people we met were just *so* nice to us. Dan kept on introducing us as his fan club, which we really are now. While we were eating lunch, he went to the office he has in the trailer truck and brought out a t-shirt for us having something to do with lighting. Though I have no clue what it's about, Sharvie was all excited about it; she knew I would let her keep it with no protests since, like I said, no clue. Had it been an Angel t-shirt... we would have had problems... *g*

Once lunch was over we made our way back to stage and Dan offered us a piece of AD's b-day cake. You really think either one of us would say no?? How many fans can say they've had a piece of AD's b-day cake?? (If you can, don't tell me. I like to feel special sometimes.) Then we just hung out in the lighting room for a long while, whispering to each other while filming took place. Tom and Sharvie talked shop while I listened to all the lighting jargon. At one point, Dan called Tom on the radio and told him to put Sharvie on the board so that she could move some of the lights. She was so excited!

Here's the best part!!! At some point they were done shooting a scene where Wesley was in his office talking to a couple of people (if asked, I'll let you know who) and they were going to begin rehearsing the next scene, which included Amy, AD, Mercedes, and Andy Hallett. Since they were only rehearsing, we were allowed to watch from just outside the office where we could catch a word here and there. Gosh, it was so freakin' awesome! All of them were in make-up, Lorne in all his green glory and Fred(????) in all her... coloring...

Before Amy and Mercedes went in to the office to do their part, Amy turned towards us and smiled. The girl is really tall, thin, and beautiful. Mercedes is of the much shorter variety, but I think she's still taller than me. Both of them are incredibly beautiful. Sharvie and I spent maybe a good 20 minutes just watching them rehearse the same scene about 4 times. By the way, AD is so hot! He has such a perfect smile too!

Soon after that it was time for us to leave. Jerry came in a cart to pick us up and take us back to the gate through which we came in. Along the way he asked us if we were "Angel-ed out!" Like that's possible! We asked him if they get people visiting the set often, and he said that it's not often, though sometimes there are people with connections who bring in people who are fans. One example he gave was the daughter of some major guy visiting, and while he was giving her the tour, JM came up next to her and Jerry asked her if she would like to meet JM. When she saw him she was got so excited she started crying, so JM hugged her. Lucky, lucky, lucky.... Everyone we kept on talking to, by the way, when asked who was our favorite character, and we told them, they always told us that JM was "such a nice guy," "he's a people person," etc.

We thanked Jerry profusely for all their time and extreme hospitality. He told us that at the lot they are family, when someone is invited, they're like family. As if we hadn't felt incredibly special and privileged to have gotten such an opportunity, Jerry managed to make us feel even more welcomed. The whole experience was just utterly amazing.

Рамзес о Фред

http://www.voy.com/13746/16677.html

Вот что пишет Рамзес после просмотра 15 серии.
In the episode A Hole In the World we learn that Fred had a stuffed bunny named Feigenbaum, master of chaos. In reality Feigenbaum was a scientist who noticed patterns, especially patterns appearing on different scales at the same time. Clouds, smoke from a cigarette..patterns in complex systems... that suddenly become unpredictible. Rules seem to change. But, there is a pattern to be found in that unpredicability. Chaos science rejects traditional science's trend towards the analysis of the parts(quarks, neutrons and so on) and concentrates on the whole.(You can't see the big picture spike..you can't see the picture at all...Angel)

You can imagine this science also speculates on free will and determination. Something that seems random may not be random at all. On the other hand, if the tiniest thing can change the 'rules' how can we not argue for free will?

Perhaps the most important and well known aspect of Chaos Theory is the butterfly effect. The generator of unpredictibility, that tiny difference within a system that can lead to startling differences. The man that coined the term stated,"if a butterfly is flapping its wings in Argentina and we cannot take that action into account in our weather prediction, then we will fail to predict a thunderstorm over our home town two weeks from now because of this dynamic."(Lorenz, 1987)

Now what does any of this have to do with ATS season 5? Well we have the above quote from the caveman versus astronaut fight. Where Angel accuses Spike of being unable to see the big picture. But it's been a running theme this entire season... Angel himself not noticing things. Last night he hadn't noticed Fred and Wes. In Smile Time we had the joke with Nina the wolf girl using him as a chew toy right after he announces he hasn't been paying attention to life around him. In Destiny he doesn't notice when all hell breaks loose. And all the way back to Unleashed, he's blaming the arrival of Spike for why he's unfocused on their mission to help the hopeless. He's not seeing the big picture himself.

And he might be right about Spike, Spike has always been the jossverse very own trickster archtype, the agent of chaos. And there was that whole ripping of the fabric of reality thing earlier...something you might expect to happen when one complex system of patterns were laid on top of another...or when a pattern just suddenly changes. Note how he breaks the rules and asks the questions of Drygon(and nothing happens)...and earlier in the season how he's told over and over that he can effect his reality if he wants it bad enough. So maybe Spike is the butterfly.

But what if the butterfly effect was actually something else? Say the mindwipe? The complex system is destiny itself. The patterns? Remember Skip saying they were all brought together for a reason? Jasmine needed them together to bring about her birth. We had the relationships(WES/Fred/Gunn),Lorne misreading people, the souled vampire, Pylea and finally Cordi being chosen as the one who would bring Jasmine into the world.

Well take Connor out of the system,(Connor being the one aspect that helped define this as Jasmine's reality) what happens? Is the pattern happening just on a different scale? Same group of people brought together, same things are being repeated, just slightly different results.(One that works for W&H)

And when did all this start happening? Was it Pylea? Why was Fred's professor sending brillant women to Pylea? Why were the high priests and W&H looking for a princess who had visions.(And aren't Fred's mathematical constructs visions of a sort? Chaos Scientists consider themselves believers) Knox talked about positioning himself to be at W&H for Illyria's arrival, that it was all destined to happen...did someone position Fred as well? Was Fred 'destined' to become Illyria all along?(At least in some reality without say, Connor?)

Think about Fred's speech when the portal opened above her and that thing with the claws started to attack Angel...it looked exactly like the fail safe W&H keeps in the basement. And notice the 'claws' in the released picture we have of illyria. We never got to know why Fred's professor sent her to pylea, why the portal opened, and more importantly...why W&H were interested in her speech. But we do know that Fred made choices all along...her choices helped bring down Jasmine who would have rid the world of free will. But it was also her choices that brought her own death and destruction and the birth of Illyria.

Fred seemingly came to LA to study physics and have a safe boring life. Clutching her bunny(master of chaos) she went out into the world and discovered demon dimensions, portals through time, souled vampires and bugs. After Pylea, she chooses to stay to stay in LA. She chooses to work at W&H. Watch her as she approaches the crystal on the sarcophagus, it's as if she's as pulled to it as Angel was to the scroll containing the prophesy.

So what exactly is Joss saying about free will? Well, many believe chaos theory helps bolster the belief in free will. Certainly, it implies an indeterministic universe. Our choices effect what happens in our time. But what if someone stood outside time?(SP's) Wouldn't they then see the 'big picture'? In effect 'determine' what happens?
Now we'll learn in Shells that Illyria's temple shares the same real estate as W&H, just in another time/dimension. But without her army she's just futilely trapped in this dimension...trapped with Fred's memories, real and unreal. She is a god, complete with destiny that finds herself as trapped as she was in the Well. If she remembers Connor and tells Wes, she will be doing what her destiny called for(Tearing down walls between dimensions) and if that leads to Connor's death once again than she could be literally seen as the clawed fail safe of W&H, ensuring Angel's destruction. Angel could be in a time loop of hellish proportions with destiny playing out according to the SP's whims.

Hannigan taking time out from her West End play
The Haymarket Theatre has announced that Alyson Hannigan will not appear in her West End play, When Harry Met Sally between 17th March and 3rd April.

No official reason has been given for the lead actresses absence from the newly launched play but rumours are that the absence is possibly due to Hannigan reprising her role of Willow to appear in the final ever episode of Angel which has yet to to be filmed.

Hannigan's super witch character Willow, appeared in Buffy for seven seasons and also popped up in episodes of Angel in crossover storylines. Of course, Hannigan still has a stake in the Angel show as her husband, Alexis Denisof is a regular cast member. Before the shows cancelation was announced, Denisof publically said that he would love to appear alongside his wife in the series and with time running out, this could be the last opportunity.

Other possible players in the finale include Eliza Dushku who this week spoke out in support of the cast and crew of the show she appeared in as Faith, the rogue vampire slayer. Although she is currently starring in her own show, Tru Calling, she will be free to film scenes for Angel's final ever episode.

We will keep you posted on this news story.

I'm sure there's a lot of work involved in getting ready to do a pilot, but Aly would be in the general area and could film a quick appearance.

About Eliza, Tru Calling wraps March 23rd (they're only doing 20 episodes), so she would technically free after that to film Angel.

Kristin replies: Still crossing my fingers UPN will pick up our baby!! Coming up this week, Angel and Spike come back from England and Angel will try to contact our girl Willow (hmmm … maybe Alexis’ red-head wish will come true?) and as you know, Fred is no longer Fred but evil, crazy-eyed Illyria. On that note, can I just say I was a MESS after last week’s episode? Those scenes with Fred and Wes were heart-wrenching … as if saying goodbye to the show weren’t sad enough. Ugh. There just isn’t enough Kleenex in the world t

TV Gal gives midseason a fresh start
BY AMY AMATANGELO

WHERE HAVE I SEEN THEM BEFORE?
Eric Balfour, Milo on the first season of "24," Gabe on "Six Feet Under" and Jesse in the pilot episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," is Eddie, Teresa's boyfriend on "The O.C."

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK

All times listed are EST for Wednesday through Sunday.

The way I see it, Fred can't die on "Angel" (Wednesday, WB, 9 p.m.). Too many women (Tara, Cordy, Anya, Jenny Calendar) have already died on Joss Whedon shows. Although I thought last week's episode was excellent, it is basically a retread of last season's story line. Except that instead of giving birth to a demon, the demon has taken over Fred's body. By the way the campaign over at www.savingangel.org is still going strong. And they have an absolutely fantastic tagline: "We will follow Angel to Hell ... Or Another Network." Keep up the good work, guys.

TO THE TV GAL READER BELONGS THE SPOILS

Gina Torres currently stirring up trouble as Julia on "24" will guest star on the March 11 episode of "CSI."

Exclusive: Angel Producer Talks to IGN FilmForce
Will efforts to save the show be for naught?

March 01, 2004 - The WB may have made the decision to put a stake through the heart of Angel but the fans and some WB affiliates aren't letting the series go without a fight. The online petition has now risen above 60,000 signatures and WB affiliates owned by Tribune Broadcasting (including KTLA in Los Angeles and WGN in Chicago) have protested the cancellation. Fans have already started raising money for the renewal effort, something that has Joss Whedon and series co-executive producer Jeff Bell a little worried.

"We had a big fan party," Bell told IGN FilmForce staffer Ken Plume late Friday. "We told people there to please save their hard earned money. We're just telling people, 'Thanks for all your support but please don't spend your money.'"

That's not to say that Bell and others at the Angel production offices aren't supportive of efforts to save the series, such as the packets of hair gel some fans are sending to executives at the WB. "Hair gel... If people want to do what they're doing because it's fun and it makes them feel like they're participating, I'm for it. It's just we're hearing about people raising a lot of money. It's telling that the fans are willing to spend more money saving the show that the WB is willing to spend to have it."

There's a resignation to Bell's voice that immediately tells you he doesn't believe the outlook for the show's future is good. "If there's any shot at all, it's at UPN. That's going to happen strictly on financial reasons for them." If UPN wants the series, the clock is ticking, according to Bell. "I believe there was a ten-day window to the offer and I think that's coming up but I don't know the end date to that. It seems like a long shot. I think we all took it as we are cancelled for next year and if something else happens, fantastic but we've been 'bubble boys' for so many years now so to actually have some knowledge that it's ending and sort of treat it as such is in some ways ... at least we know. It was really difficult last year not knowing and as a show runner trying to keep all my great writers from taking a job that pays them more money on other shows, saying, 'I really think we're coming back, I really think we're coming back.' Luckily we did and I got all those wonderful people to come back.

"I love the show and I love the people we work with. It's been great. They've told us we are cancelled and we're going under that umption until we hear otherwise. It's just too hard not to.

"We took a big budget hit to come back this year and we really struggled to keep our show as cool as we felt it really could be with less money. I don't see it coming back, if anyone else picks it up, with more money. It's probably less again. And I would really hate to keep some sort of corpse alive that was a shadow of what it was just to keep it going. I'd much rather go out on top, with a bang with it being every bit as cool as we can make it. Right now I'm just figuring that episode 22 of this year will be our big finale.

"I don't see how we can make it for a lower price. It would become some other show. I think there are so many factors for the show to come back and to succeed and all those would have to be weighed at the time. So we're really not focusing on that right now, we're just focusing on making the last handful of episodes really cool."

Rumors began cirulating almost immediately about some potential guest stars helping to make those episodes even more cool but, according to Bell, nothing has been finalized in the guest star department just yet. He reports that the cast and crew are keeping their spirits up while still facing the inevitable fate of anyone that works in Hollywood: someday you'll have to look for a new job. "Like everyone else, my agent's out putting my name in the hats around town. Most of us are pretty busy here just trying to keep the ship afloat." So is there any chance that Bell would take a staff writer position at, say, Dark Shadows? Bell laughed at the obvious joke. "You know, I'm thinking I've been on a really great vampire show for three years. And I hear it's not funny."

Meanwhile, there's still work to be done for this season. Regardless of what happens, everyone is under contract to stick around until episode 22 wraps, which will be in mid-April. "There's still mourning but there's a feeling of 'We have to get back to work.' The nice thing is that, by the time we get to the wrap party, it's going to be a really fun party as opposed to finding out a few weeks before we wrap that it's over and there's a sort of dark cloud hanging over it. I think the wrap party's going to be a celebration of five years of a really great TV show.

"We knew we were doing really good shows this year and our [Nielsen] numbers were up. I think what [the WB] said at the 100th [episode] was true in terms of their love for the show and what we've contributed to WB. At the end of the day it really is all about their bottom line and if we don't make [financial] sense to them, they're not going to keep us hanging around. We all appreciate knowing. It's like someone finding out they only have six months to live so every one of those days is going to be precious. For all of us here, we're really enjoying one another and just loving the time we have here. We're just making the most of that."

The WB had mentioned the possibility of television movies in their initial announcement. Does Bell think that is a genuine offer or just a way to deflect criticism? "I do think the WB creatively appreciates Angel and they feel it's one of their best written shows. I think it's a money thing. I think if it makes sense financially they'll do it. And if it doesn't, they won't. I really do think it's as cut and dried as that. There's very little romance left in television."

Roush Riff

WB's cancellation of Angel after this season marks the end of a rich era in smart, scary fantasy that began in the spring of 1997, when Joss Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer (from which Angel was spun) helped put the small network on the map. I hope Whedon's crew will have time to deliver a memorable finale, with the prospect of TV-movie adventures to follow — maybe a reunion with Buffy someday? But I foresee a long period of vamp withdrawal, and all I can say is that WB's proposed remake of Dark Shadows for next season had better be good. Trading Angel and Spike for a reincarnation of Barnabas Collins? I don't know what to think.

А вот это уже интересно )

http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/art-main.html?2004-03/03/17.00.tv

Sarah Michelle Gellar, former star of TV's Buffy the Vampire Slayer, told SCI FI Wire the reasons she reluctantly pulled out of appearing in the Buffy spinoff Angel earlier this season and left open the possibility that she might still make an appearance, if asked, before Angel winds up its fifth and final season this year on The WB. Gellar, speaking for the first time about the issue, said in an interview that she had to bow out of a planned guest appearance on Angel when her aunt died late last year. Gellar spoke to SCI FI Wire during a break in the filming of her new project, the supernatural horror film The Grudge, in Tokyo.

Her Angel decision was "a really common misconception that people have written a lot about," Gellar said. "They had asked me to do Angel, and it was a very bad time in my personal life. There was a lot going on in my family. And I had to back out. And you sort of never hear the second side of the story. You never hear why I didn't do it. And then all of a sudden, people get really angry, and nobody asks why it didn't work for you." At the time, reports suggested that Gellar had pulled out because she wanted to distance herself from the Buffy franchise.

As for whether she will guest star in Angel's season-ending episodes, much as Angel star David Boreanaz did on Buffy when it wrapped its seven-year run last spring, Gellar said it hinges in part on her schedule. She's finishing the final weeks of 42 days of shooting on The Grudge, with at least nine more shooting days to go. The final Angel episodes are in production now.

"A lot has been written about recently, 'Oh, is she going to do it? Is she not going to do it?'" Gellar said. "Well, to be truthful, I don't know if I'm even going to make it home before they finish. But no one's contacted me. I'll be totally honest. And it depends. I think. I go back and forth on the idea, especially because Angel had such a hard time, in my opinion, always getting out from Buffy's shadow. And it never got to stand on its own. And I would hate for it to go out being about Buffy. It'll all depend on if I'm home in time and what the ideas are."

Buffy and Angel creator Joss Whedon has said he'd welcome an appearance by Gellar. For her part, she said she's open to it, explaining, "If everything falls into place, and it feels like the right thing at the time for the right people."

Angel airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Universal Gives Serenity the Green Light Source: Universal Pictures Wednesday, March 3, 2004

Joss Whedon - the Oscar and Emmy-nominated writer/director responsible for the worldwide television phenomena of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel - is set to make his feature film directorial debut with the futuristic action-adventure Serenity, it was announced today by Mary Parent and Scott Stuber, vice chairmen, production, Universal Pictures.

Based on Whedon's cult hit television series Firefly (which has taken on a second life following its December 9, 2003, DVD release, winning new fans and critical praise worldwide), Serenity will continue and expand upon the adventures of the memorable characters launched in the series, who will be joined by new characters created expressly for the motion picture adaptation. Whedon will act as both screenwriter and director, with Barry Mendel (The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and the upcoming Wes Anderson film, The Life Aquatic) producing and Chris Buchanan (president of Whedon's Mutant Enemy production company) and Alisa Tager (of Barry Mendel Productions) serving as executive producers. The Serenity cast will include such returning "Firefly" cast members as Nathan Fillion as Captain Malcolm 'Mal' Reynolds, Gina Torres as Zoe Warren, Morena Baccarin as Inara Serra, Jewel Staite as Kaylee Frye, Adam Baldwin as Jayne Cobb, Sean Maher as Dr. Simon Tam and Summer Glau as River Tam.

"We have wanted to be in business with Joss Whedon for a long time and we're incredibly excited to be working with him on his feature film directorial debut," stated Parent and Stuber. "Joss is a true creator, whose talent crosses all mediums. His mythic worlds are inhabited with rich, detailed and very human characters. 'Serenity' will provide him with a great opportunity to paint another larger-than-life canvas with very identifiable, real characters at the heart of the story."

Whedon - whose compelling use of character, place and dramatic development helped "Buffy" and Angel to break down genre walls and cross over into global hit mainstream territory - now applies his trademark compassion and wit to a small band of galactic outcasts 500 years in the future. The film centers around Captain Malcolm Reynolds, a hardened veteran (on the losing side) of a galactic civil war, who now ekes out a living pulling off small crimes and transport-for-hire aboard his ship, "Serenity." He leads a small, eclectic crew who are the closest thing he has left to family -- squabbling, insubordinate and undyingly loyal.

When Mal takes on two new passengers - a young doctor and his unstable, telepathic sister - he gets much more than he bargained for. The pair are fugitives from the coalition dominating the universe, who will stop at nothing to reclaim the girl. The crew that was once used to skimming the outskirts of the galaxy unnoticed find themselves caught between the unstoppable military force of the Universal Alliance and the horrific, cannibalistic fury of the Reavers, savages who roam the very edge of space. Hunted by vastly different enemies, they begin to discover that the greatest danger to them may be on board "Serenity" herself.

На форумах говорят, что съемки начнутся в июне. Думаю, Ведону сейчас не до "Ангела"...

Пришло официальное подтверждение, что UPN отказываются.

IGN FilmForce Exclusive: Angel Producers Confirm UPN Decision
"Too expensive," says network.

March 03, 2004 - In response to a news report at SyFy Portal, sources within Mutant Enemy have confirmed to IGN FilmForce that the UPN network has passed on the option to pick up Angel. No official statement has yet been released from either Mutant Enemy or UPN but from all indications, the series will end with episode 22 of this season.

Fans behind the Save Angel movement have asked fans to stop sending messages to UPN, further indicating that the future of the series is dim. Co-Executive Producer Jeffrey Bell told IGN FilmForce last weekend that any decision by UPN would be based on their financial situation. That situation has been in steady decline over the past several years, partially due to an exceptionally high license fee paid by the network to Fox for the rights to Buffy the Vampire Slayer's final seasons.

As always, stay tuned to IGN FilmForce for any developments on this series.

Рейтинги по-прежнему не поднимаются на уровень трешки, как ни бейся...

zap2it had the average and Smallville's total. WB averaged 3.2 and Smallville got 3.5, so that means Angel got a 2.9 in the fast nationals....

И чтобы не заканчивать на грустном - прикол с ASSB

I am beginning think "grayer universe than BtVS" was a typo.... They do get gayer with every episode,

Никто не знает, правда ли это, но верить хочется, копирую сюда и в Angel: Save as...:
I got this on the http://www.saveangel.org/site. It was in the forums: http://www.pixsys.co.uk/angel/forum/ The topic can be found here for anyone who wants to read/see it: http://www.pixsys.co.uk/angel/forum/viewtopic.php?t=205.

Here’s what Rebecca on the saveangel.org forums had to say:

Okay, so I got this off of the City of Angel Forum. I think its not true, but I am going to post it anyway. The person who posted this, posts often, so I know it isn’t spam, I just don’t think its true. So here goes:

"My friend flukie (inside info guy) has informed me that the WB has signed Angel up for a 6th season provided that the rating increase and the pleas to keep angel alive are massing over the 2 million mark so the WB will consider Angel to be its most important asset."

Okay, seriously, I do not know how reliable this is. The guy who wrote it posts often, so I know he is not just spamming the site. Everyone at City of Angel were saying that it was a lot of crap too, but here is what he had to say in response.

"no no joke this is serious my friend know loads of stuff before most people get a wind of it and he’s about 98.6 % accurate on all Angel things."

The WB hasn’t confirmed anything on this yet. Just to let you know. So take it with a grain of salt. I’m not believing anything until it’s been confirmed. I’m not gonna get my hopes up or anything because then I will just be let down even more. Let’s hope this turns out to be true.

March 5th, 2004, by Sandy, Canada
Just a further note, I noticed today on the WB website "Angel will return" message board that the WB is not immediately deleting any posts that refer to fans rallying together to save Angel, the scheduled Rally in LA on March 12th, or references to go and sign the petition. Previously they were deleting any message containing this info right away. When I tested my theory the message I had posted was still on the message board hours later. Also, there were many others directing fans to the save Angel websites, petitions and the LA Rally. I thought this was kind of strange as they were deleting messages with these references immediately before. Maybe this is a sign.

ГОлосовалки

Геро, спасибо! Соображения по поводу я положу в Angel: Save As

Which of these soon-to-be cancelled Angel actors is most likely to have an acting "afterlife"?
David Boreanz (Angel) 25%
James Marsters (Spike) 25%
Alexis Denisof (Wesley Wyndham Price) 25%
Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia) 25%
Пока все кандидаты идут очень ровно.. Посмотрим, что будет дальше.

Кстати, прочитала где-то, что голосовать за "Ангела" на
