Subject: Major casting news for episode 17!
Julie Benz has been cast for the rest of the season. In episode 17 she will be playing the wife of Lindsey and Gunn and then later in the season Darla. You're in for a wild ride this season, have fun!
A beat, then the door opens, revealing Trish. On Angel, surprised to see
this beautiful woman.
TRISH
Can I help you?
ANGEL
(not sure what to
make of this)
Is Lindsey home?
Trish smiles
TRISH
Sure. Come on in.
The guys exchange glances, follow Trish into
INT. Suburban House Entry/Family room continuous.
As they enter
TRISH
(calling out)
Honey!
(to the guys)
Theres coffee
ANGEL
Were fine. Thanks.
As Lindsey emerges from the hallway that leads to the bedroom
LINDSEY
(to Trish)
Zachs hockey sticks gone missing
(sees our guys)
Hey, there. Didnt realise we had
company.
TRISH
(to Lindsey)
Ill do search and rescue.

Darla coming back?
First thought I had was that Darla will turn out to be the vampire whom the shanshu prophecy is about. It would be delicious if Spike and Angel were head-butting all season about this, and it turns out to be someone else!
Thing to remember about Darla is that when she was last dusted she had a soul at the time, albeit she was sharing her unborn son's, and that she died a champion - of and for that son. Not a grand save-the-world champion, but a more personal, individual, though not in any sense smaller or less important, champion.
And Darla would fit the whole 'will the vampire with a soul save or destroy the world' uncertainty better than Angel, or even Spike.
How does it come about? The SP's alteration of reality re Connor will be subject to the law of unintended consequences - in respect of Connor's oft-despised mother. (One thing to remember about the 'not remembering Connor' situation is that the only thing we know so far is that the othres don't recognise the name - they could simply recall him as 'Frank' for instance , although I doubt it will be that simple!)
While I'm here - Lindsay (probably with Eve) will take over W&H at the end of the season. It's what he always wanted, but I suspect he will do so on the side of good - he'd make a better job of it than Angel, being a greyer (not the 'boring' meaning) individual. We'll have a completely new premise for AtS s6.
I think Joss is making a statement that it is the personal relationships of family, friendship and love that are what rescues the world from evil, not the grand plans - especially 'war plans' - of those who hold executive (read 'political') power.
I was rewatching some eps today, including Soul Purpose. Given what we now
know about Fred's organs being eaten away from inside, leaving her just a
shell for Illeriya, I started to wonder if all Angel's parasite-induced
dreams might bear kernel of truth.
He dreamt about each member of the FG. The Fred dream, with her bear
assistant and all the strange objects she pulled out of Angel's body, has
already been discussed a lot, so I'll skip it here.
WESLEY: This dream seems pretty direct. Wesley comes to Angel, tells him
that it must be hard to finally come to grips with the truth. Then he
attacks Angel with a stake. We've seen Wesley shoot the cyborg he thought
was his father to protect Fred, so it's no big leap to guess that Wesley
will turn against Angel when Angel lets Fred die. Wesley is also the person
most likely to find out about the mind wipe, since he's the one most likely
to be poking around in W&H's library. We know that W&H keep a copy of every
contract they've ever made, so IMO they must have one that spells out the
terms of the infamous deal with Angel. This could mesh with Wes's comment
about "coming to grips with the truth."
SPIKE: Angel's first dream of Spike is a redo of the "Cup of Eternal
Torment" scene where Spike beats him to the punch, as it were. In the
dream, though, Spike grimaces and appears illuminated and transformed --
just as he did in the moment before he began to burn in Chosen. However, it
is Angel whose flesh melts off as his skull bursts into flame.
Angel surely knows that if he had used the amulet last year in Sunnydale, he
would have been the one to do the pillar-of-fire thing. The whole amulet
story has not yet been explained (I won't be too surprised if it never is).
Surely it's not really Lindsey who recorped Spike -- I'm willing to buy
that he can leap around Matrix style and turn jacknives into swords, but
raising the dead? Ok, so Lindsey DID raise Darla from the dead, but he had
all the power of W&H backing him up at the time.
Getting back to Angel, will he be the hero who dies a fiery death this
season? All the shanshu prophecy promises is that he will live until he
dies. That doesn't guarantee longevity.
MORE SPIKE: Angel's next dream of Spike has Blondie Bear in bed making love
to Buffy. Angel's worried that Spike is taking Buffy to the prom (LOL)
while Spike seems to be more concerned about being interrupted. He mentions
being a marathon man, which is obviously a sexual innuendo, but could also
refer to the movie of the same name. Nazis, torture -- both of those were
coming up for Spike with Soul Purpose aired.
Buffy mentions that she kills
her goldfish -- a reference to Angel's Fred dream as well as to Spike -- who
has been associated in the past with fish, fishes, Christ figures, etc.
The goldfish, said Fred in the Fred dream, is Angel's soul. It's dead and
should be flushed. A foreshadowing, perhaps of the re-emergence of Angelus?
Souless Angel killed Willow's goldfish back in BtVS season 2. That would be
a bang-up way to end the season -- Angel's soul is banished, leaving Angelus
to gloat over his victory, with only one vampire with a soul left in the
world -- Spike.
THE FANG GANG, including the W&H employees: In the next dream they're
watching the city burn, quite unconcerned, as if it were a movie. Sounds
like typical W&H behavior. "We have one scheduled" (an apocalyse) said
Holland back in season 2 during Angel's elevator ride to hell. As we heard
yesterday, it seems Joss has one scheduled this year, too.
SPIKE is again the focus of the follow-up dream -- he's the hero who
apparently stopped the apocalypse while Angel is the sad, no longer useful
mailman (like the former Mexican wrestler-hero). Spike has a huge cake
decorated with skyscrapers in flames. It says "Way to go, Spike!" on it,
which is rather ambiguous. We don't see Spike putting OUT those flames.
"It was nothing, really," says Spike, ominous words for some of us who've
followed WTP's posts over the years. To which Fred replies, "Nothing?
Spike, you single-handedly ended Armageddon and turned the world into a
beautiful, happily-ever-after, candy mountain place where all our dreams
come true."
The phrase "where all our dreams come true," is an intriguing one, isn't it?
Meanwhile Gunn describes the scene outside as "The Living End," which is
perhaps even more ominous. When the living ends, Gunn, you're dead.
When the Blue Fairy transforms Spike and his heart begins to beat, Fred is
the first one to listen. Next to listen is Gunn, who says, "Oh, I wanna
hear." No one else listens to Spike's heart, but Wesley says, in a play on
words, "Let's all hear it for Spike!"
We know Fred dies. She also listened to Angel's empty body in the Fred
dream ("I think I can hear the sea"). Is listening for a heartbeat similar
to walking up the stairs in Restless? Or speaking without moving the lips
in Restless, which I think maybe Joyce, Tara and Anya all did. If you
listen to Angel (i.e. follow him) are you doomed? I wouldn't put it past
Joss to kill the entire Fang Gang, although it does cause problems if the
show is renewed!
LORNE: They all listen to Angel in dream about Lorne, but Angel can't
manage to make any sound louder than a squeak. Lorne notes that "the
crowd's turning on you." The crowd, of course, consists of the Fang Gang.
THE GANG AGAIN: In the final dream, Angel is seated in an easy chair
outside in the daylight, with Fred, Gunn, Wesley and Lorne gathered round
him. Is he human here, and thus able to sit in the sun? Or he is dead?
WESLEY
You can stay as long as you like. Stay forever.
ANGEL
But I'm not supposed to be here.
LORNE
No fighting, Angel heart. Time to let freedom ring. Let yourself go.
All four members of the FG scream as if they're dying horribly as the
parasite is removed by Spike from Angel's chest.
If Wes, Lorne, Fred, and Gunn die (punishment for working for W&H??), the
season could end with Angel still alive, but distraught over the tragic
results of the deal he made. (Or he could die a hero, like Buffy in The
Gift -- which is kinda what we all expect, no?) If the show is renewed for
another season, Angel might be forced to somehow reverse the W&H contract --
trading Connor's safe new existence for the restoration of his friends at
the point just before they joined W&H. Spike, presumably, would not be
affected, barring complications with the amulet spell. Neither would
Harmony. Connor would die. So would Cordy, but since she's dead anyway
that's not really a factor.
What could ever induce the SPs to make such a deal? The usual price of a
bargain with the Devil is one's soul. So Angel dies, leaving Angelus back
in control of his body at the end of season 5.
Or not <g>
